Route

Sub-Tree is the only location in GCO Any% where a mix is performed.

The boss fight for Sub-Tree is Fatty Whale, which is the first of two RNG-heavy points in the early game.

Other than that, this first section is pretty straight forward.

Room 1

The first room is a long hallway with a door at the end. Just run forward and hold up to enter the door as soon as possible (pretty hard to mess this one up).

Room 2

Try to replicate the movement shown in the video.

A few things to note:

  • Jumping as fat Kirby has a faster horizontal speed in the air than jumping without anything in his mouth.
  • The jump off the pillar into killing the Waddle Dee can be tricky. It is best to undershoot this jump off the pillar than to overshoot, as overshooting will lead to getting hit by the Waddle Dee. If this happens, just slide off the top platform (or reset the run).
  • Killing the Knuckle Joe at the end is optimal because he will be in the way otherwise.
  • If possible, try to avoid hitting the wall as you descend to the next door. It wastes a tiny bit of time (this needs to be verified).

Room 3

Wheel Mix

The goal of this mix is to have Kirby inhale the two Birdons in this hallway to initiate a mix. This mix is difficult because:

  • Birdon health management - Shielding or hitting a Birdon too many times can kill it.
  • Each Birdon can perform a random action, so the player needs to be prepared to play around every possible scenario.
  • Wheel is fairly deep into the mix roulette.
  • Failing the mix requires a room reset, which wastes a good chunk of time.

Roulette

Once the two Birdons are inhaled together, a mix can be initiated.

This mix will start on Suplex and end on Wheel.

Movement After Mix

Once the mix is done, you can opt to do a turn boost off this platform for a little extra speed. (gif needed)

When going through the platform right before the water, be careful of the Birdon enemy here, as it has a chance of swooping down and hitting Kirby. You can avoid it if you go through the platform fast enough, but you can quickly shield it if needed.

Room 4

The most optimal (though completely optional) way to get through this beginning section is to do a turn boost off the highest block above the lava pool.

There are two ways you can turn boost off this platform, with the fastest being pretty tight and only saving a minimal amount of time.

Spawn Wheelie while standing underneath the platform so you can immediately jump on him.

Room 5

Quick kill Bonkers by using a jump boost off Wheelie.
